Nothing will happen.

“NOTHING WILL HAPPEN”. That’s the second biggest lie of all time.

Wherefore let him that thinketh that he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 cor 10:12 KJV)

“Don’t be so naïve and self confident. You are not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self confidence; it is useless. Cultivate God-confidence”   (1 cor 10:12 The Message).

Strolling to ‘sin-street’ and saying “Nothing will happen”, “its just harmless fun”. “Oh come on! It’s just a scene”, “its not even pornography” is self-deception at its worst. It’s a big lie, an over-fed turkey stuffed lie.

The truth is that something will happen.  There is nothing that is just ‘nothing’. Every minute, every minuscule bit of your existence is worth something. A stolen kiss, a glance at a ‘non-porn pornographic’ flick, a careless statement, a ‘white’ lie, or a little ‘something-something’; they are all worth something. Every action or inaction is worth something.

Worst hit by this ‘nothing will happen’ lie are people who are extremely self confident and see no harm in playing with sin, and the appearances of it.

Can a man scoop fire into his lap without being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?” (prov 6: 27-28).

We are to Abstain from evil [shrink from it and keep aloof from it] in whatever form [or] whatever kind it may be” (1 thess 5:22 Amp)

Its not even debatable! As long as it is not entirely edifying, run as fast as your legs can carry you. In Christianity, the end does not justify the means, the means is equally as important as the end; in fact it is the means that determines the end. Spiritual fruits cannot be gotten from applying worldly methods.

The bible tells of Peter ‘the rock’ (hard name for a hard guy). He was a tough nut to crack,. He was just a ‘common’ Jew that had the guts to draw his sword in the presence of trained roman soldiers! He was the tough talking, water walking, fire breathing Peter!

He probably thought that sitting among people that hated Jesus wasn’t a big deal. He probably said “Nothing will happen, I got this”. Probably after the first Lie he told he must have said “oh that’s nothing!”, but then he just stayed there and lied; and lied again.

His initial “what is the worst that could happen” “it’s nothing really” had him out in the cold crying.

We just can’t do things carelessly. Truth is something will happen! Those seemingly harmless acts leave things with you, and perhaps in an unguarded moment it would let loose its venom on you.

Its best if we decide to strongly refuse any thing that looks like sin!

Having crossed over from the tyranny of death and sin to the realm of life and righteousness we are to take a lot of things seriously, and this includes everything, we are to “beat our body down under subjection” when we need to, because everything we do is either for our benefit or its not. There is no middle ground.

Being well aware that “the human heart is the most deceitful of all things and desperately wicked who really knows how bad it is?” (Jer 17:9 NLT), we are to heed the advice to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rom 12:2 NIV). Doing this we’ll understand that there is nothing we are to leave to chance. We are to be led by the Spirit, and when he empowers us to Flee, let’s move our feet.

“A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next? Just this: you can look forward to a dirt poor life, with poverty as your permanent house guest” (Prov 24: 33-34 The Message)

Yes!  a little it doesn’t matter here, a little it doesn’t matter there, and regret will creep upon you!

Do it the better way, do it God’s way!

Finally whatever is true, whatever is noble, and whatever is right. Whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praise-worthy think about these things.

Yes! These things matter! In doing them things happen.

Red carpet

In our contemporary society the ‘red carpet’ is the dream of so many people; young and old. They just want to walk on the red carpet and flash well rehearsed smiles at the cameras, strike various “celebrity-like’ poses, and then tell the world how excited they feel to have made it to that point.

The red carpet is only laid for the most prestigious events and only the most prestigious of the most prestigious get the most attention.

Popular among the red-carpet events are award ceremonies for actors and actresses.

Actors simply act out a script, (which is in most cases different from their normal lives). They are told to strictly abide by the contents of the script. The best actors completely immerse themselves in the character they are asked to play.

My favourite actor is arguably the best of them all. Cool, suave, amazing. He has never acted out of character; He is the best of them all.

Well, considering that His Father is a really decent script-writer you’d expect the talent to flow in the Blood.

In one of my favourite scenes He said “…Look, I have come in to do your will, O God, as is written about me in the SCRIPTures” (Heb 10:17 NLT)

He didn’t jump scenes he obeyed every line in the script. “…and died a selfless obedient death, the worst kind of death at that: a crucifixion” (Phil 2:8 The message)

He didn’t pull off a Houdini-like escape, or hire a double to do some stunts for Him. He performed his own stunts!!! There was no crimson soup used in exchange for blood, it was His Blood. There was no one screaming “CUT”! There was no video editing! He was completely in character.

You know why?  Because He loved you. Scratch that. Because He loves you. Even with all that stuff you carry around He still loves you.

The question now is when are you going to pick up the SCRIPTure and start acting your part?

There is actually a script tailored for you, it’s a perfect fit.

My favourite actor (which should be yours too) actually acted out some scenes meant for us. He was our double. We didn’t have the qualification to act the part so He bailed us out . We still have some scenes we’ll have to act anyway, and he doesn’t leave us clueless about what we are supposed to do;

He tells us everything over and over, one line at a time, a little here and a little there” (Isa 28:10 NLT)

Just in case you are worried you’ll be a bad actor, we have some assurance, He also said

For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” (Jer 29:11 NIV)

I know some folks might be worried about forgetting the lines, but He knows about that too, so He said

I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand” (Isa 541:16 NIV)

HE has a major role for you to play, it’s so important that the movie will not be perfect if you are not in it.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I appointed you [I gave you a role, I had written your script I had prepared the stage for you] a prophet to the nations. (Jer 1:3 paraphrased)

He longs to see you fulfill your potential; you have come packaged with a unique skill set peculiar to you alone.

If you go to Him you don’t have to worry about being rejected, here is how He put it.

“…and whosoever comes to me I will NEVER DRIVE away” (John 6:37 NIV)

There is a purpose why God created you, and you will experience the greatest satisfaction, even greater than the movie stars experience on their ‘red carpet’, a million times greater.

The Joy of the blood drenched rocky plains of Calvary, cannot be matched by any thing this world can give.

There will be a party eventually, in the city where the streets are made of gold.
